five years ago today my life was forever changed. my little man owen entered this world!!!! June 15, 2005 owen and i shared a special experience, we both had our first surgery. mine was the c-section of course and his was the colostomy bag, and as we all know now it was his 1st of 16 surgeries. we knew before owen was born that he had birth defects and would be sick. we had no idea how severe it would be or how difficult. in a meeting with doctors before owens heart surgery the kidney dr told us that he would need a kidney transplant by age 5. i remember what natalie said when i told her "that means they think he will live to be 5, that's a good thing". during that time it was so hard to see past 5 minutes so the thought of 5 years was completely beyond me. somehow here i sit with 5 years gone by in the blink of an eye. boy was that kidney doctor spot on :-) i cant wait to sit here with 5 more years gone by and see what great young man owen will be!!!

Also his bad ass dancing. I was telling my mom the other day about his "Hang out w/ my wang out!" comment last year. He makes me smile every time I think of his sweet face! That pic of him there you have posted makes me want to cry & thank God all at the same time. Love you & tell O-dawg Happy b-day from us.

My top 5 Faves, of the big 5 year old....
ReplyDelete1. His perfectly-over-crowded teeth! I get mesmerized by how freaking cute they are and I'm grateful every chance I get to see them.
2. His Temper! It defines the fire inside him, it reminds me that he fought hard to be here, and reassures me that he will always fight to win.
3. His Eyes! Because that 1st year of his life not being able to hold him very much or get to see him move around, looking into his eyes was the only way to "connect" or get to know him. Now his eyes are so familiar to me, it's like I get hugged when he looks at me. And I swear he sends & recieves messages with those eyes, it's like they are programmed with some kind of Visionary Text Messaging;-)
4. His Memory! It amazes me and frankly kinda makes me jealous! It took me a really long time to remember the words to songs and develop my inner human GPS system. Then this kid comes along at 5yrs old to match my 35 year old skills:-b WTH!
AND, last but not least.....
5. His size! Because, he may not weigh or measure in where most his age does...But he has fought like hell for every inch & pound he has to show and he has the scars to prove it! I love that no one asks how old he is until after they realize how freaking amazing he is. He has a Big Heart in his chest, a Big song always rolling off his tongue, Big hugs & kisses to give, a Big plan to live out and ALLLLLL 30lbs of him puts the BIGGEST smile on my face! Dynamite comes in small packages and that lil ball of fire has a license to do what ever the heck he wants in my book, forever!:-)
On the other hand...My only Un-Fave thing about Owen would be his "Magical Ability" to make me lose ALL control of my tears which leads to me uncontrolably cry at times when I'm truly really Happy;-/ I have cried more times because of allllll the really freaking cute things that boy is saying, doing, dancing, singing, patting, pretending, hiding, laughing, smiling, eating, yelling, imagining or wearing! And, I don't like it, Owen, give me control of my tears back, they are MY tears for goodness sake!
